POLITICKS

I heard a good sermon a few weeks back. It was about politicks. I don’t know if I can remember the words, but I’ll try:

Imagine a sparse, hot desert several miles wide with a river running right through the middle. Along this river is many trees of all sorts. Fruit of many kinds is available on both banks of the river, and many grazing animals are there enjoying the lush harvest.

Now, imagine two groups of people, one on the right side of the river, and one on the left. They talk across the waters and each has their own ideas of how to harvest and use the bounty along the river banks. So, they disagree, so much, in fact, that each group refuses to have anything to do with the other group or even be close to them. The people on the right side walks across the desert away from the river so they can’t hear the left group. The people on the left also backs away from the river so they can’t hear those on the right side.

Each side began to get hungry and thirsty, so they pick dry thorny plants to chew on and lick the little dew drops from the tumble weeds.

Isn’t it a pity that all the people can’t put aside their differences and do what is best for all? Somewhere in the center is a lush bounty they could all enjoy, but they let their differences stop them from enjoying that which God has supplied.

If all people would meet together with God in the center, wouldn’t this be a wonderful world? God made plenty of everything we need, but it’s up to us to gather it and help each other in it’s use. Politicks being what they are, not only causes people to thirst and hunger, but waste that bounty God has amply supplied.

God feeds the little birds, but He don’t throw the seeds in their nests…

Well, I thought that preacher made his point. In our country this day and time politicks are so stratified that no matter how good a measure is, if it was introduced by one party, the other party will oppose it, and vise-versa. No matter how bad a measure is or what it will cost the people, if one party introduces it, all members of that party will support it.
