MY NEW CAR
I was coming home from the post office along “I” street and there is no light at 13th street. “I” street has no stop at that intersection, but 13th does.
In a collision between a wheelchair and a car, the car will win every time, so I have learned to be very careful. As I approached 13th, I paused because there was a bright green, brand new, PT cruiser approaching. The car stopped and the senior lady behind the wheel waved me across in front of her.
I started across but as I approached the left of her car, I looked up the street. Sure enough, here come a pick up fast. I waited and the fool roared across “I” street, ignoring the stop sign, and continued down 13th. Had I not paused, I would have become another dirty spot in the middle of the intersection.
The senior lady in the PT Cruiser had her window down and said, “You really have to watch out, don’t you?”
I told her that I was used to it and always watched for such fools. She pulled forward to the point where her window was alongside me and asked, “How do you like my new car?”
Needless to say, I did not expect a woman my age to own such a car, And the paint job didn’t help much, either, so I asked, “It is yours?”
“Yes,“ she said, “I just picked it up this morning so I’m out driving around”
I said, “Well, it’s nice, but why that kind of car?”
That old gal looked at me with a grin and said, “I just wanted to show my smart-assed grand kids there is still fire in these old bones!” She then went scooting across “I” street and zoomed down 13th.
I sat in the middle of 13th street and laughed like I had gone totally off my rocker. Good for that old gal! She gave me a good laugh…
