LIFE'S FULFILLMENT

They came to me as babies
And very much in need.
So beautiful and sweet,
Very helpless, indeed.

God gave to me these babies,
A blessing in my life.
Responsible I had to be
Through happiness and strife.

Fulfillment of my life's desire
I held within my arms.
And promised to protect them,
And keep them free from harm.

Band-aids, bruised knees, burned fingers
Colds and fevers galore.
And many nights a-walking
Back and forth across the floor.

Yet great moments sure has come
Of happiness and glad heart,
When my lovely child did something,
That I believed to be quiet smart.

A big smile and a hug
And a kiss upon the cheek
Turns my heart to jelly
And renders my soul quiet weak.

I forgot the muddy footprints
On the carpet for all to see.
I just remember all the blessings
And what they mean to me.

For they are blessed miracles
Come to my home to live.
With many smiles, much laughter
And abundance of love to give.

Then comes the time these children
Who now have beard or breast
To make their own blessings
And flee my humble nest.

I am not young, Great-Grand-Pa,
To this I must confess.
But I am very happy
For I've been truly blessed!
