Flat
I had gone about two miles away from home and was returning when the tire began to go flat. There was no place near to pump it up and I was a quarter mile from home, so, I took the inner tube out of the tire, put the tire back on the wheel, and proceeded at a slow pace toward home.
There was a business building which was being rejuvenated by a couple of men. One of the men was at the back of a truck as I came slowly past. He looked at me and asked, “Sir, you know you have a flat?”
I said I was aware of it, and went on by.
There is a Denney’s alongside the building with a ramp and a sort of porch with a railing. Leaning on this rail was a tall cowboy-looking man. He had a grin from ear to ear as he said, “I really expected you to say ‘No Kidding” to that jerk.”
I laughed so hard I almost drove off the curb…
