SMALL CHAIR, BIG MAN

I came across a young kid who had his crooked little body strapped into a kid-sized power wheelchair. He had his left arm strapped down with his hand on the control and wore the brightest smile you ever wish to see. He had a hard time talking and said, �I can go fa - fast.�

�I�ll bet you can,� I said. �Is that a new chair?�

�They ma ma made it just for me,� he said with even bigger grin. His head swung against the restraint as he tried to talk as plain as he could.

�How fast can you go?� I asked.

�Fas fas faster than you,� he said.

With this he took off and proved he could go faster than I.

I don�t think we can refer to that young man as handicapped. He has never known any thing else and is determined to make his life fun. Normal life for kids like him is less than twelve years old. The meeting with him was very brief, but I thank God for that moment. We could all learn from that precious little boy...
